International Awards and Honours

Nobel Prize : The most prestigious award in the world, supported by The Nobel Foundation ( USD 58,960,000) was set up in 1900 under the will of Alfred Bernhard Nobel. Alfred Nobel was a Swedish scientist and chemical engineer who discovered Nitroglycerin and its use in manufacturing of Dynamite in 1866.These awards are presented annually on 10 December, the daeth Anniversary of the founder and is presented by Swedish King.


Pulitzer Prize: Pulitzer Prize was instituted in 1917 and was named after US publisher. Joseph Pulitzer. It is annually confered in the US for accomplishment in Journalism, literature and music.


Magsaysay Award instituted in 1957, named after Ramon Magsaysay, President of the Philippines; it is annually conferred for outstanding contribution to Public Service, Community Leadership,Journalism,Literature,Creative Arts and International Understanding.

Templeton Awards instituted 1972, named after John M Templrton, a presbyterian of Nassau, Bahamas is given for progress in religion.

Booker Prize instituted in 1968 is the highest literary award, set up by the booker company and the British  Publishers Association.

Right Livelihood Awards instituted in 1980 by Jakob Von Vexkull, a swedish-German writer and philatelic expert, after selling hiis stamp collection.Also know as alternate Nobel Prize and conferred for practical and exemplary solutions to real problems of today.

Oscar Awards conferred annually by Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciencs in the US in recognition of contribution and performance in the field of cinema.

Jawaharlal Nehru Awards Instituted by Govt of India, is conferred annually to persons for outstanding contribution in promotion of international understanding , goodwill and friendship among people of the world.

Nobel Prize Winner for 2011

 On 27 November 1895, Alfred Nobel signed his last will and testament, giving the largest share of his fortune to a series of prizes, the Nobel Prizes.
Nobel Prize in Physics 2011 was awarded to Saul Perlmutter, Brian . P.Schmidt, Adam G Riess, for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of supermovae.

Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2011 was awarded to Dan Shechtman, for discovery of quasicrystats.


Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2011 was shared between Bruce.A.Beutler and Jules.A.Hoffmann, for their discoveries concerning the activation of innate immunity.


Nobel Prize in Literature 2011 was awarded to Tomas Transtromer because through his condensed, translucent images, he has given us fresh access to reality.


Nobel Prize for Peace 2011 was shared by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee,Tawakkul Karman for their non-violent  struggle for the safety of women.

Nobel Prize for Economics and Science 2011 was awarded to Thomas J Sargent and Christoper A Sims for their empirical research on cause and effect in the macroeconomy.

Sebastian Vettel wins the Indian Grand Prix inaugral race at Buddh Curcuit in Greater Noida.

  Once again Sebastain Vettel has proved that he is the best man when it comes to Formula One racing, by winning the Indian Grand Prix race at the Buddh Circuit in Greater Noida, Delhi.He is the second man to win eleven races in a series.Earlier, Michael Schumacher has the record of winning eleven race in a series.

If he manages to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Brazilian Grand Prix , he would be the first person after Michael Schumacher to have won maximum races in a series.Sebastain Vettel was felicitated by Mayawati, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh after winning the Indian Grand Prix Event.Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was at the finishing end after completion of 60 laps to wave the victory flag . Jenson Button  finished second and Fernando Alonso finished third at the Indiaan Grand Grand Prix.

Miss Angola, Leila Lopes crowned Miss Universe 2011.

The 60th Annual Miss Universe Pageant hosted by Bravo's Andy Cohen and NBC's Natalie Morales was held in Sao Paulo,Brazil, where contestants from nearly 90 countries and territories around the world competed in three categories swimsuit,evening gown and personality interview. Miss Angola Leila Lopes was crowned the Miss Universe 2011, by last years Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete from Mexico.Angola is a south-central African country bordered by Namibia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zambia.The 25 years Leila Lopes from Benguela is the first winner from her country.In the personal interview round, She was asked that " What is the one thing that she would lilke to change in her physical characteristics, Leila replied that she was happy with the way she was. She said that " 'I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty,' she told the judges and the audience..
I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family, and I plan to follow those through the rest of my life.The finalists making the top ten were Miss Australia, Miss Costa Rica, Miss France, Miss Ukraine, Miss Portugal, Miss Panama, Miss Philippines, Miss China and Miss Brazil.

Bollywood Movie - Ra-One Review

 When you watch this movies you will realized that Shah Rukh Khan(Actor) and Anubhav Sinha(Director)  has actually put in of  lot of efforts to make a Bollywood version of superhero. If you ask me, how i felt while watching the movies, i would say it is definitely worth watching superhero film with lots of creativity, thrilling action packed car and bike chasing scenes with perfect blend of emotion, humours and drama .What make the film more beautiful and interesting is the way the movies has been carried forward and definitely the awesome special effect which were very much close to Hollywood standards.This is definitely must watch movies for those who love watching their super star take on the villians to protect his son from the so called Ra-One, who is created from his own video game, which he had developed for his son to make him happy.
     This is a story of a gaming programmer, South Indian Shekhar Subramaniam who designs a deadly game for his son, where the villian ( The Ra-One) is stronger than the super hero ( The G-One). The Story began when Shekhar son expressess his desire to play the deadly game and ends up risking his life by defeating the The Ra-one in the very first game. The villian instead develops a life of its own to take on the develop's son, who was playing the game last.
    Though most of the ideas in the movies are not original and adoptation of most of the Hollywood sequel, good  presentation and lot of hard work has made the movies look good.. Some scenes though not original ideas like the one in which the walls of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus eventually start to crack , statue of Queen Victoria falls as the suburban train which is unstoppable collides with the rail head, speaks lot about the amazing specially effects. If you really wish to enjoy the movies do not apply much of logic and watch it like any other super- hero kind of movies, you will definitely enjoy it.

New Zealand wins Rugby World Cup 2011

New Zealand has once again won the Rughy World Cup after a gap of nearly 24 years by defeating France 8-7. The Rughy World Cup is considered as the third biggest sporting event, after Olympics and Football. All Blacks Coach Graham Henry was very proud of this team boys and was very delighted to see All Blacks captian Richie McCaw  holding the world cup.( better know as Webb Ellis Cup).New Zealand has reached this milestone after a long wait of 24 year through their efforts and determination.
The winners are awarded the Webb Ellis Cup, named after William Webb Ellis, who is the inventor of rugby.

Terms associated with this sport you must know:
 TRY 5 points :  A try is scored when the ball is grounded over the oppenent's goal line.
CONVERSION 2 points:  After scoring a try, the team will be given the chance to kick the ball over the crossbar and between the posts, from the spot where try was scored.
PENALTY 3 points: It is awarded for a foul to the oppenent team, it can be kicked straight to the goal.
DROP GOAL 3 points:  When a player kicks for a goal in open play,dropping the ball on the ground and kicking i on half -volley.

India avenges England by winning all the ODI played in India

India has once again proved that they are the real heroes and no country or team is good enough to keep them away from success for all long time. After its ridiculous defeat in the 5- ODI series in England , Indian team was criticised for its miserable form.
However, on Tuesday, 25 Oct, 2011, Dhini mens showed a extravagant performance and defeated England hands down. Man of the Match Ravindra Jadega and  R Ashwin left the England team helpless by taking 10 wickets in 16.4 overs. Dhoni won the man of the series awards for his brilliant batting performance in the entire series. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the best thing that has ever happened to Indian Cricket Team. He scored 212 runs in four inings, including two half centuries.

India has won all the five matches in the 5-match series and have proved themself as the undisputed winners of this series.

Novak began 2011 by winning the australian Open by beating  Andy Murray. With that he ended his three year wait for Grand Slam.
Won his next six tournaments in Dubai, Indian Wells,MiamiBelgrade,Madrid and Rome.
Won Wimblendon title after defeating the then, World No 1 , Rafal Nadal.
Improved his record fifth Masters title in a season when he won in Toronto.
Defeated Nadal once again in Us Open and cgrabbed the US Open title.Has won 10 titles..He is the only  the sixth person in 40 plus years to win three Grand Slams titles in single season.
He has won more than  $10 millions in prize this season. He is the only second man to beat Federer and Nadal  en route at Grand Slam title.

World loses the Apple innovator Steve Jobs.

Biography of Steve Jobs who died on 7 October , 2011 at the age of 55, after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.
Steve Paul Jobs was born on 24 February,1955 in San Francisco to Joanne Simpson, then an unmarried graduate student, and Abdulfattah Jandali, a student from Syria.Simpson gave Steve jobs for adoption though she later on married Jandali and give birth to Mona Simpson, who become a novelist. Steve Jobs was adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs .
Steve took up summer job at HP while at school. Jobs quit college after a semester, as it was depleting his parents savings, and travelled to India where he became a Buddhist
When he came back to California, he started working for video game firm Atari and attended meeting of the Home brew Computer Club with School friend Steve Wozniak.

Both started Apple Computer in the Jobs garage. Their first creation was Apple I , a computer without case,keyboard or monitor.
Apple I  become so popular that jobs was worth $100 million by 25.
Apple released the first commercial Computer with Graphical user Interface (GUI) . The Macintosh, introduced in Jan 984, was the successful PC to have GUI and a mouse.
After a power struggle with CEO John Sculley , Steve resigned as Chairman in 1985.
Jobs bought George Lucas computer graphics shop for  $10 million and renamed it Pixar Inc in 1986.
In 1991, he married Laurene Powell in 1991. The couple had three children. Jobs had a child from a previous relationship. 
In 1998, Applle unveiled the iMac, an all in one PC embedded in translucent box.Apple become profitable again .
In 2001, Apple revealed iTunes, a free software for organising music. iPod was all launched in the same year.
In 2003,.Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Disney bought Pixar for 6.08 billion in 2006. In the same year Steve dropped computer and introduced iPhone.
In 2009, He cutback his daily involvement in daily activity at Apple.
Jobs introduced the iPad in 2010 and iPad tablet. He resigned and Tim Cook took over  as CEO.

Health Heart - How to keep your heart healthy

To keep your heart healthy you should eat a balanced diet with less saturated fat from red meat, more fish, less sugar, more fiber and for many people, fewer tatal calories. Then you can make your heart and other cardiovascular system healthier by consuming the below mentioned food stuffs.

Salmon :

 Fish is an ewxcellent source of omega 3 fatty acids that protect your heart by reducing both inflammation and the risk of blood clots. These fats also work to keep your cholestrol level Healthy.Eat salmon or other fish at least two times per week. For a healthy heart meal, try grilled salmon steaks with green vegetable.

Olive Oil

Olive oil reduces your risk of heart diseases by lowering your LDL cholestrol levels.


Oats : Oats conatins a soluble fiber called beta glucan that helps reduce total cholestrol  and LDL cholestrol.It also keeps your digestive system healthy.

Apples : Apple contains a phytochemical called quercetin which act as an anti- inflamatory and help prevent blood clots.

Almond: Almonds and nuts contain healthy oil, vitamin E and other substances that will keep cholestrol level in check. Almond are also a good source of protein  and fibre..

Red Wine : Red wine contains polyphenois that may be good for your heart. Be sure to enjoy red wine in limit. Studies show that only 4 to 8 ounces are more than enough.

Whole Grain:  Whole grain provide vitamins and fiber that will help to keep your heart healthy.

Green Leafy Vegetable : Green leafy vegetable contains folate, which helps to keep homocysteine level down and Vitamin E.

Tomatoes : Tomatoes are packed with vitamins and lycopene, which has been shown to reduce heart diseases risk.

Essential Know - How of Formula one in India

The Indian promoters, Jaypee  group, are forkng out  around 171  crores just to get the event , set to take place at the Buddh circuit on October 30., to their spanking new 875 acres in Greater Noida.

As a business model, F1 is currently at the mercy of one organisation. It is headed by Bernard Charles ( a.k.a) Bernie Ecclestone and his formula One Group is an umbrella under which falls F1 Management.

A country that host F1 experiences 456 percent  return on Investment due to spike in tourism and judging by the rising hotels room rates. The average boost to a local economy in a country hosting F1 was 492 crores.

Track Length : 5.137 km, Number of turns  16, Estimated maximum speed of a car : 320 Kmp, Estimated average speed of a lap :210 kmp, Number of laps : 60 laps, Direction : Clockwise.

The circuit is designed to host  1,20,000 people.

The Inidan GP sees a line-up 24 drivers including five who have won at least one world championship and current double world camp Sebastian Vettal.

An F1 car has around 80000 components. it can accelerate from zero t 200 kph and decelerate to zero again in abr 7 sec. At 300 kph, the aerodynamic components on an F1 car generate enough downforce for the car to run upside down without falling to the ground..The optimum temprature for the brakes is about 750 degrees centigrades..

There is no prize money for f1 teams. Money earned through sale of TV rights, trackside ads and merchandise is pooled at the end of the year and distrubuted among the team based on their standing.

 Ticket sales bring in the lion shares. For the Indian GP, the cheapest ticket available is Rs 6000 ( with seating)  an the most expensive is  Rs.35000. Of the other venues the cheapest ticket is turkish GP Rs5022 and the most expensive 3 day ticket is Monte Carlo for Monaco GP Rs. 36212.

A driver loses 2-3 litres of water in a race which may amount to almost 3 kg weight loss.Heart beat can rise to 150-200 bats/minutes in a race for F1 driver. A water bottle is in the cockpit with a pipe going through the driver helmet.

Formula one Motor Car History

Alfa Romeo ( 1950)

Giuseppe Farina won the first Formula one race in Alfa Romeo in 1950. Tis Huge bonnet housed an eight  cylinder-in-line1.5 litre engine that pumped put around 370 bhp. The driver sat behind it,waering a cotton shirt, a leather helmet  and ne seat belt, steering hard, narrow treaded types.




Copper: (1959)

The domination of formula one by British engeering excellence, which still continues today began with this car. Copper put the engine between the driver and the rear wheels,a revolution that set a design format that continues ibto 21st century. The Better weight made the car more agile and manoeuvrable.Jack Bradham took back t back titles with the cars in 1959 and 1960.




Lotus 25 (1963)

1962 saw a revolution in the chassis building field; Lotus boss Colin Chapman presented his famous Lotus 25. It was first single seater ever to be made using the Monocoque (Single shell) construction method..






Lotus 49 (1968)

thgese Ludicrous -looking rear wings on stilts, again pioneered by lotus, were the start of the age of aerodynamics in Formula One. In their first iteration, the wings were to fragile and often broke leading to terrible accidents.





Lotus 79 (1978)

This car took aerodynamics to a whole new level. With the 79 Lotus Designer Colin Chapman perfected  a phenomenon know as ground effect. wher e in the air flowing under the car was channelled to create unheard of levels of aeridynamic downforce.





Brabham BT52 (1983)

The arrow shaped design was a technological landmark because of its MBW power plant., the first turbo charged engine to win title.








Williams FW14B (1992)

This was probabley the most technologically advance cars. This was the zenith of electronic driver aids, such as computer controlled active suspension and traction control, which prevented wheel spin.





Ferrari ( 2004)

Ferrari was perfect in almost all aspect,best technology, best reliability, and best driver (Michael Schumacher ). This cars still holds records for most no of wins.

F1 Motor car Engine at its Technology

This season are the most efficient engines with most advanced technology and techniques.

Engime: Specification of the Motot car are 2.4 Litre V8 engine, weighting no less than 95 kg and rev limit of 18,000 RPM. F1 engine produces around 720 bhp and manages 130 kms per 100 litres.

Steering: This year steering wheel has two extra buttons, the DRS button to adjust the rear wing and one for KERS- which is particularly complicated , the drivers can adjust the amount of energy released at various points around the circuit..

Diffuser : It controls the amount of down force a car generate.

Rear Wing:  This season the rare wing is driver adjustable.  A button on the upper rear flap, creating a 50 mm gap, which reduces drag and provides of top speed boost of almost 15 kph.


Brakes: The carbon -fibre discs have exceptional performance. They can reach more 1000 degrees celsius under full retardation.

7 Typres : For every race a driver get two compounds, the prime and the option. Each driver ges 11 sets of typres for the race weekend..

 Front wing : The front wing influences the  air flow over and under the car , it was concurred that  a stable front wings will reduce the effect of the wake.

Formula One Motor Sport - Let's know the men at owork

Every Engineer has a crucial role to play in the Grand Motor Sport event to keep the  Motor engine stable and runnng. Let see who are the mens at work.

Front jack man : He levers a jack and lifts the car from its nose for the front tyres to be fitted.

The Gun man; He re attaches the nuts and tightens them to around 500 ib/ft. it takes around three seconds for this.

Fireman: there are always  chance of spark from the engine due to excess heating.

Rear Jack man The raises the car from the behind to help change the tyres. He also has a engine starter in case the car  stalls.

Extras: He removes any debris from the radiators that may have picked up.

Wheelmen : For each wheel, there is a 2 member crew - one for removing other for fitting.

The lollipop man : Holding out his carbon fibre lollipop, he guides drivers for precise stoping place. He Sigmnals the car after the typres are changed..

India to host Formula One Motorsport Event at Greater Noida, India

The Greatest motor sport event is has come to our country,bringing lot of excitement amongst all the F1 crazy fans, with people dieing to book their ticket to watch their motor super heroes driving at a speed 200 kph with the eardrum-splitting noise of revved up 800bhp engine at the Buddh International  Circuit Greater Noida on 30 Oct 2011. Doordarshan would be broadcasting the Grand Prix Event.

Many of us in India are not very know to most the the rules and some of the minute details associated with this sport. Here are some basic and most interesting details about this sport.

Grand Prix : A race run according to F1's sporting and technical regulations as defined by the sport's govering body, The International Automobile Federation.

Pole position : the term used to define the very first slot on the starting grid of an F1 race. A driver earns pole position if the sets the fastest time during the hour long qualifing session held on the Saturday of a weekend race..

Fatest Lap : The fastest laao recorded over the course of an F1 race.

Points System: The Top  ten finishers of an F1 race are awarded points on 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 basis.
